K is for Kite Runner

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Khaled Hosseini is one of my favourite writers. He writes so beautifully it fills me with envy because I don't think I could ever craft such poetic sentences, and paint such vivid pictures with words. The Kite Runner is an exceptional book, although not my favourite by Hosseini (but we'll get to that one later in the alphabet). It is a heartbreaking story full of suspense and endless twists and turns and it will have you gripped from start to finish. It's a complicated story of brotherly love and the relationship between fathers and sons told through the lives of Amir, the son of a wealthy man, and Hassan, the son of their servant.

This book also gives a good overview of life in Afghanistan over the last 40 years. Hosseini makes Afghanistan accessible to anybody who has never been, which is also helpful in understanding current events surrounding the country.
