H is for History

The Winter Palace by Eva Stachniak

This is an unfinished book for me. I started it in January 2015 and got about three quarters of the way through before I folded. It's a great book, well written, and set in St Petersburg in the 18th century. If you love history, Russia, and especially Russian history then definitely read this, but truth be told, i'm just not crazy about historical fiction. Most historical novels i've started (especially European history) have ended for me before finishing them.

The reason i've thrown this in my book alphabet is because I love St Petersburg. I went there in 2014 and was gifted this book for Christmas that same year. Whilst in St Petersburg I spent a whole day in the Winter Palace which is now the Hermitage Museum. It is one of the most magnificent museums in the world, with art and artefacts from all over the world and the building itself is even more spectacular than its current contents. This book also has one of the most beautiful covers I think of any book I own.
